Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly is listed as a 'game-time decision' for the upcoming game against the New Jersey Devils, while Joel Edmundson will be out of the lineup.

Injuries continue to take their toll on the Maple Leafs, with defencemen Morgan Rielly and Joel Edmundson both absent from the morning skate on Tuesday.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe later revealed that both are “day to day” with undisclosed injuries. But while Rielly was a game-time decision for Tuesday night’s game against the Devils, Edmundson is not only out for the New Jersey game, but not expected back all week.

Rielly, 30, is the Leafs’ top offensive defenceman on the team, currently fifth in team scoring with seven goals and 44 assists this season, while averaging 23:49 minutes of ice a game.

The 31-year-old Edmundson was only just acquired at the trade deadline from Washington, drawing praise for the physical manner he played in Saturday’s 6-3 win against the high-flying Oilers. He has played just seven games so far in the blue and white, averaging 17:44 minutes of ice time.

There was some good news for Maple Leaf fans, however, as winger Mitch Marner was spotted on the ice for the first time since injuring his ankle on March 7. Keefe described the status of his third-leading scorer as “day to day,” and possibly able to join the team for a full practice on Wednesday.

“Mitch is no longer day-to-day from day-to-day,” Keefe said, jokingly. “He’s just day-to-day. He’s progressing very well.”

In goal, Ilya Samsonov was also seen skating, which was comforting news after the way he had to depart Saturday’s game in the third period with an injury. “He wasn’t going to play tonight, regardless,” Keefe said.

Joseph Woll will get the start against the Devils, with veteran Martin Jones backing him up.

Defenceman Mark Giordano, meanwhile, was cleared to play, but was made a healthy scratch.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing a tough decision ahead of their upcoming game against the New Jersey Devils, as defenseman Morgan Rielly is listed as a ‘game-time decision’. Rielly, who has been a key player for the Leafs this season, is dealing with an undisclosed injury that has kept him out of the lineup for the past few games. His status for the game against the Devils remains uncertain, but the team is hopeful that he will be able to suit up and contribute on the ice.

In the absence of Rielly, the Leafs will also be without defenseman Joel Edmundson, who is out of the lineup due to an upper-body injury. Edmundson has been a reliable presence on the blue line for Toronto this season, averaging over 20 minutes of ice time per game and providing a physical presence in front of the net. His absence will be felt by the team, but they will need to rely on their depth and versatility to make up for his absence.

If Rielly is unable to play, the Leafs will likely turn to their other defensemen to step up and fill the void. Players like Jake Muzzin, Justin Holl, and Travis Dermott will need to elevate their play and take on more responsibility in Rielly’s absence. The team will also need to tighten up defensively and focus on limiting scoring chances for the Devils, who have been a strong offensive team this season.

Overall, the Leafs will need to be prepared for a tough matchup against the Devils, regardless of whether Rielly is able to play or not. They will need to come out with a strong effort and play a disciplined game in order to secure a win and continue their push towards the playoffs. The team’s depth will be tested in this game, but if they can come together and play as a cohesive unit, they should be able to come out on top against a talented Devils team.
