University of Iowa basketball superstar Caitlin Clark announced she is entering the 2024 WNBA draft in a statement posted to X, formerly Twitter.
The all-time NCAA women’s scoring leader will depart Iowa at the end of the season, forgoing her final year of college eligibility.
“While this season is far from over and we have a lot more goals to achieve, it will be my last one,” Clark said. “I am excited to be entering the 2024 WNBA draft.”
Clark, 22, has brought unprecedented attention to women’s basketball and cemented her legacy in the history books on Feb. 15 as she broke Kelsey Plum’s all-time NCAA women’s scoring record in the first quarter of her 49-point game.
She added another accolade on Feb. 28 as she passed Lynette Woodard to become sole holder of the major women’s college scoring record, sitting at 3,650. Clark also set an NCAA single-season record for three-pointers.
The Indiana Fever currently hold the first pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, followed by the Los Angeles Sparks and the Chicago Sky.
