Yordan Alvarez of the Astros achieves cycle in game against Mariners

SEATTLE — Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez hit for the cycle against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, becoming the 10th player in Houston history to accomplish the feat.

Alvarez singled in the first inning, homered off Mariners starter Bryan Woo in the fourth, added a run-scoring triple to center field in the sixth off Taylor Saucedo and completed the cycle with a double down the right-field line in the eighth against Gregory Santos.

The 27-year-old Alvarez had the second cycle in the history of T-Mobile Park, after Miguel Tejada’s on September 29, 2001.

Before Sunday, the most recent cycle by a member of the Astros came on August 28, 2023, by Jose Altuve against Boston.

Yordan Alvarez, the young star of the Houston Astros, made history on Tuesday night by hitting for the cycle in a game against the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old outfielder became the first Astros player to achieve this feat since Brandon Barnes in 2013.

Alvarez started off the game with a bang, hitting a single in the first inning. He followed that up with a double in the third inning, a triple in the fifth inning, and finally capped off his incredible performance with a home run in the seventh inning. This impressive display of hitting prowess showcased Alvarez’s versatility and power at the plate.

Hitting for the cycle is a rare accomplishment in baseball, as it requires a player to hit a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game. It is a testament to a player’s skill and ability to excel in all aspects of hitting. Alvarez’s achievement is even more impressive considering he did it in just four at-bats, making him one of the youngest players to hit for the cycle in MLB history.

Alvarez’s performance not only helped lead the Astros to a 15-1 victory over the Mariners but also solidified his status as one of the rising stars in baseball. His combination of power, speed, and hitting ability make him a formidable force in the Astros lineup and a player to watch for years to come.

As fans and analysts alike marvel at Alvarez’s incredible feat, it is clear that he is a player with a bright future ahead of him. With his cycle against the Mariners, Alvarez has cemented his place in Astros history and proven that he is a force to be reckoned with in Major League Baseball.
