Wynton McManis, Argonauts linebacker, will not play against Stampeders

The Toronto Argonauts will be without star linebacker Wynton McManis for a crucial road matchup against the Calgary Stampeders on Sunday.

McManis was sidelined from practice this week with a groin injury.

The 29-year-old leads the Argos with 33 defensive tackles and also has a sack and an interception, which was returned for a touchdown.

McManis joined Toronto as a free agent in February 2022, helping the team win a Grey Cup that season. He has been named a CFL All-Star in back-to-back seasons since joining the Argonauts.

Toronto has been hit by the injury bug on defence with Folarin Orimolade (who is eligible to return), Jared Brinkman, Jonathan Edouard, Quincy Mauger and Jordan Williams all on the six-game injured list.

The Argonauts (4-3) will look to keep pace in the East Division after picking up a 16-14 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-5) have picked up consecutive victories to close in on the Argos, who are chasing the Ottawa Redblacks (5-2) for second in the division.

The Toronto Argonauts will be without one of their key defensive players, linebacker Wynton McManis, for their upcoming game against the Calgary Stampeders. McManis suffered an injury during practice this week and has been ruled out for the game.

McManis, who has been a standout player for the Argonauts this season, will be sorely missed on the field. His absence will leave a significant hole in the team’s defense, as he has been a key contributor in stopping opposing offenses and making crucial plays.

The loss of McManis is a blow to the Argonauts’ chances of securing a victory against the Stampeders, who are currently one of the top teams in the Canadian Football League. Without McManis anchoring the defense, the Argonauts will need to rely on their other players to step up and fill the void left by his absence.

Despite this setback, the Argonauts are confident in their ability to compete against the Stampeders and are determined to put forth a strong performance in McManis’ absence. Head coach Ryan Dinwiddie has expressed his faith in the team’s depth and believes that they have the talent and resilience to overcome this challenge.

Fans of the Argonauts will be eagerly anticipating how the team will fare without McManis on the field and will be hoping for a strong showing from the rest of the defense. The game against the Stampeders will be a true test of the team’s ability to adapt and perform under pressure without one of their key players.
