Trevor Richards of the Blue Jays scheduled to start against the Orioles on Tuesday

The Toronto Blue Jays will turn to reliever Trevor Richards to make a rare start on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles, the club announced.

Richards fills Alek Manoah’s spot after the right-hander suffered an elbow injury his last time out.

Richards has made seven starts for Toronto in the past two years. He began his MLB career as a starter in 2018 with Miami before transitioning to mostly bullpen work in 2020.

Richards is 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 25 appearances out of the bullpen this season. The right-hander has struck out 26 and walked 13.

Bowden Francis (forearm) is expected to be activated off the injured list and could help fill innings after Richards exits on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, The Orioles start three-time All-Star Corbin Burnes.

The Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up for an important matchup against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday, with Trevor Richards set to take the mound as the starting pitcher. Richards, who was acquired by the Blue Jays in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers earlier this season, has been a solid addition to the team’s pitching rotation.

Richards, a 28-year-old right-hander, has shown flashes of brilliance on the mound this season, with a 3.38 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 29 appearances. He has also recorded 53 strikeouts in 45.1 innings pitched, showcasing his ability to miss bats and keep hitters off balance.

In his last outing against the New York Yankees, Richards threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three batters. His performance was a key factor in the Blue Jays’ victory, and he will look to build on that success in his upcoming start against the Orioles.

The Orioles lineup poses a tough challenge for Richards, as they have several dangerous hitters who can change the game with one swing of the bat. However, Richards has shown the ability to navigate through tough lineups and keep his team in games, making him a reliable option for the Blue Jays in this crucial matchup.

With the Blue Jays currently fighting for a playoff spot in a tight American League Wild Card race, every game is crucial for the team’s postseason hopes. A strong performance from Richards on Tuesday could go a long way in helping the Blue Jays secure a much-needed win and continue their push towards October baseball.

Fans will surely be tuning in to see how Richards performs against the Orioles, as he looks to solidify his spot in the Blue Jays’ rotation and help lead the team to victory. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting and competitive game between two division rivals.
