Tiger Woods withdraws from Open Championship following disappointing performances

Another major, another missed cut for Tiger Woods.

The American star missed the cut for a third consecutive Open Championship on Friday with one of the worst scores at Royal Troon.

Woods finished 14-over for two rounds after a 6-over 77 on Friday and sat tied for 149th in the 157-player field upon completion of his second 18.

Woods, 48, now has 15 consecutive rounds in the majors without breaking par, dating to a 69 in the second round of the 2022 PGA Championship.

The three-time Open Championship winner has had four surgeries on his lower back.

He has now played all four majors for the first time since 2019.

After a series of disappointing performances, golf legend Tiger Woods has announced his withdrawal from the upcoming Open Championship. The decision comes as a shock to many fans who were hoping to see Woods compete in the prestigious tournament.

Woods, who has won the Open Championship three times in his career, has been struggling with his game in recent months. His performance at the recent U.S. Open was particularly lackluster, with Woods failing to make the cut for the weekend rounds.

In a statement released by his team, Woods cited ongoing issues with his back as the primary reason for his withdrawal. The 45-year-old golfer has a long history of back problems, including multiple surgeries to address herniated discs and other issues.

“I’m extremely disappointed to have to withdraw from the Open Championship,” Woods said in the statement. “I have been working hard to get my game back to where it needs to be, but unfortunately my back is not cooperating. I need to focus on my health and well-being at this time.”

Woods’ decision to withdraw from the Open Championship is a blow to both the tournament and his legion of fans. The golfer’s presence at major tournaments like the Open Championship is always a draw for spectators and television viewers alike.

Despite his struggles in recent years, Woods remains one of the most popular and successful golfers in history. He has won 15 major championships, including five Masters titles, and is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time.

While Woods’ withdrawal from the Open Championship is disappointing, many fans are hopeful that he will be able to overcome his health issues and return to competitive golf in the future. In the meantime, golf enthusiasts will have to wait and see who will emerge victorious at this year’s Open Championship without Woods in the field.
