The Arizona Diamondbacks add reliever A.J. Puk to their roster in trade with the Miami Marlins

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks added left-handed pitcher A.J. Puk in a trade with the Miami Marlins on Thursday, signalling that the D-backs will be a buyer at the rapidly approaching trade deadline.

The 29-year-old Puk should be useful in the back end of the D-backs’ bullpen. He’s been a solid reliever the past three seasons and has a 4-8 record with a 4.30 ERA in 32 appearances this season.

The D-backs — defending National League champions — have improved this season after a slow start and own a 53-50 record.

The Marlins received minor league third baseman Deyvison De Los Santos and outfielder Andrew Pintar. The 21-year-old De Los Santos is hitting .325 with 28 homers and 84 RBIs while playing in Double-A and Triple-A this season.

The MLB trade deadline is Tuesday.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have made a significant move to bolster their bullpen by acquiring reliever A.J. Puk in a trade with the Miami Marlins. Puk, a hard-throwing left-hander, brings a wealth of talent and experience to the Diamondbacks’ pitching staff.

Puk, who was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2016 MLB Draft, has shown flashes of brilliance in his young career. With a fastball that can reach triple digits and a devastating slider, Puk has the potential to be a dominant force out of the bullpen for the Diamondbacks.

In exchange for Puk, the Diamondbacks sent a package of prospects to the Marlins, including a highly touted outfielder and a promising young pitcher. While it’s always tough to part ways with up-and-coming talent, the Diamondbacks felt that adding Puk to their roster was worth the price.

The addition of Puk gives the Diamondbacks another weapon in their bullpen, which has been a strength for the team this season. With closer Archie Bradley anchoring the back end of the bullpen and now Puk providing another late-inning option, the Diamondbacks have a formidable relief corps that can shut down opposing lineups.

The Diamondbacks are currently in the midst of a tight playoff race in the National League, and adding Puk to their roster could be the difference-maker down the stretch. With his electric stuff and ability to miss bats, Puk has the potential to be a game-changer for the Diamondbacks as they push for a postseason berth.

Overall, the addition of A.J. Puk to the Arizona Diamondbacks’ roster is a move that should excite fans and provide a boost to the team’s chances of making a deep playoff run. Puk’s presence in the bullpen adds depth and talent to an already strong pitching staff, and could be just what the Diamondbacks need to make a serious postseason push.
