Springer moves back to leadoff spot and Bichette bats cleanup as Blue Jays face Astros

George Springer will make his return to the leadoff spot and Bo Bichette will hit cleanup as the Blue Jays look to land a second-straight win on the red-hot Astros on Wednesday evening.

After a slow start to the season offensively, Springer has begun turning things around at the plate in recent weeks, collecting 12 hits during his last nine games and bumping his batting average up to .215, despite heading to Fenway Park last week slashing .188.

Now firmly back into the lineup after a brief stint on the Injured List in mid-June, Bichette will look to turn what has been up to this point a disappointing season around from the four spot with Vladimer Gurrero Jr. batting ahead of him.

Brian Serven, called up from Buffalo to fill in for Danny Jansen, who is on paternity leave, will start behind the dish and backstop Yusei Kikuchi. It will be Serven’s first appearance with the Jays since April 13.

The Toronto Blue Jays made a lineup change for their game against the Houston Astros, moving George Springer back to the leadoff spot and shifting Bo Bichette to the cleanup position. This decision comes after Springer has struggled at the plate in recent games, hitting just .200 over his last 10 games.

Manager Charlie Montoyo explained that he wanted to shake things up and give Springer a fresh start at the top of the lineup. “George is a dynamic player and we believe he can jumpstart our offense from the leadoff spot,” Montoyo said. “We know he’s capable of getting on base and setting the table for the rest of the lineup.”

Bichette, who has been hitting well in the second spot, will now have the opportunity to drive in runs with runners on base in the cleanup spot. The young shortstop has shown power and consistency at the plate this season, making him a strong candidate for the cleanup role.

The Blue Jays will be facing a tough Astros pitching staff, led by ace Justin Verlander. The lineup change is aimed at giving the team the best chance to score runs and come out on top in a crucial series against a strong opponent.

Fans are excited to see how the new lineup configuration will play out and are hopeful that it will provide a spark for the Blue Jays offense. With Springer back at the top of the order and Bichette in a key run-producing spot, the team is looking to put up some big numbers against the Astros.
