Canadian Sarah Mitton was eliminated in the Olympic women’s shot-put final on Friday after dropping to 12th after three throws.

Mitton’s best throw was 17.48 metres, well back of the leaders. She looked to have a made a throw around the 20-metre mark, but fouled out when she lost her balance and stepped out of the ring.

Germany’s Yemisi Ogunleye ultimately won gold with a throw of 20.0 metres, New Zealand’s Maddison-Lee Wesche (19.86) took silver, and China’s Jiayuan Song (19.32) won bronze.

“I’ll be back in four years,” Mitton, from Brooklyn, N.S., told Devin Heroux of CBC Olympics.

The Nova Scotian had the best score during qualifying with a throw of 19.77 metres. She won silver at this event at last year’s world championships.
