Russell Westbrook anticipated to join Nuggets following trade, report says

Russell Westbrook will have a new home next season.

The Los Angeles Clippers are sending the nine-time NBA All-Star and a second-round pick to the Utah Jazz in a sign-and-trade agreement for guard Kris Dunn, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday.

Wojnarowski also reported that Westbrook is expected to agree on a contract buyout with the Jazz and then eventually join the Denver Nuggets after he clears waivers.

Westbrook spent last season with the Clippers after he joined the team midway through the 2022-23 season. He appeared in 68 games for the Clippers in 2023-24 and averaged a career-low 11.1 points per game

The 35-year-old guard played the first 11 seasons of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder and was named the 2016-17 MVP after he led the Thunder to a 47-35 record.

But recently, the NBA’s all-time leader in triple-doubles has bounced around. Should Westbrook join the Nuggets, they will become his fifth team in the past six seasons.

Along with the Clippers, Westbrook has also played for the Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Lakers after the Thunder traded him to the Rockets after the 2018-19 season.

Over 1162 career regular season games, Westbrook has averaged 21.7 points, 8.1 assists and 7.1 rebounds.

The one thing that has eluded Westbrook in his career is an NBA championship. He made one appearance in the NBA Finals in 2011-12, but the Thunder lost in five games to LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

According to a recent report, NBA star Russell Westbrook is expected to join the Denver Nuggets following a trade with the Washington Wizards. This potential move has sent shockwaves throughout the basketball world, as Westbrook is considered one of the top players in the league.

Westbrook, who has spent the last season with the Wizards after being traded from the Houston Rockets, is known for his explosive playing style and triple-double capabilities. The 32-year-old point guard has consistently been a dominant force on the court, averaging triple-doubles in multiple seasons and earning numerous accolades, including NBA MVP in 2017.

The addition of Westbrook to the Nuggets roster would undoubtedly bolster their chances of contending for a championship. With a talented core of players including Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, Westbrook’s skillset and experience could provide the team with the extra edge needed to compete at the highest level.

While nothing has been officially confirmed yet, the rumors of Westbrook joining the Nuggets have sparked excitement among fans and analysts alike. If the trade does go through, it will be interesting to see how Westbrook integrates into the team and how his presence impacts their performance on the court.

Overall, the potential addition of Russell Westbrook to the Denver Nuggets would be a significant move that could potentially reshape the landscape of the NBA. Fans will have to wait and see how this situation unfolds, but one thing is for certain – if Westbrook does end up in Denver, it will make for an exciting season ahead.
