Pirates pitcher Skenes throws seven no-hit innings in win over Brewers

Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher, Alex Skenes, put on a masterful performance on the mound in a recent game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Skenes threw seven no-hit innings, leading the Pirates to a 4-1 victory over their division rivals.

Skenes, a 25-year-old right-hander, was dominant from the start, keeping the Brewers’ hitters off balance with a mix of fastballs, sliders, and changeups. He struck out 10 batters and walked just two, showcasing his command and control throughout the game.

The Pirates’ defense also played a crucial role in Skenes’ no-hit bid, making several key plays behind him to preserve the historic performance. Center fielder, Jake Thompson, made a diving catch in the sixth inning to rob Brewers’ slugger, Christian Yelich, of a potential extra-base hit.

Skenes’ no-hit bid came to an end in the eighth inning when Brewers’ first baseman, Keston Hiura, broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff double. Despite giving up the hit, Skenes remained composed and finished the inning without allowing any further damage.

After the game, Pirates manager, Derek Shelton, praised Skenes for his outstanding performance on the mound. “Alex was absolutely electric tonight,” Shelton said. “He was in complete control out there and really kept their hitters guessing. It was a special night for him and for our team.”

Skenes’ no-hit performance was the first by a Pirates pitcher since Jameson Taillon accomplished the feat in 2018. It was also just the 11th no-hitter in franchise history, further solidifying Skenes’ place in Pirates lore.

With his dominant outing against the Brewers, Skenes has established himself as a rising star in the Pirates’ rotation. His ability to command multiple pitches and keep hitters off balance bodes well for his future success in the major leagues.

As Skenes continues to develop and refine his craft on the mound, Pirates fans can look forward to many more memorable performances from the talented young pitcher. His no-hit gem against the Brewers will surely go down as one of the highlights of the 2022 season for Pittsburgh.
