Payton Henry is alert and responsive after being carted off the field during a Buffalo Bisons game

The triple-A Buffalo Bisons had their road game against the Syracuse Mets cancelled on Friday night after catcher Payton Henry was carted off the field.

In the bottom of the seventh, Mets third baseman Pablo Reyes swung through a first-pitch fastball and hit Henry on the back of his head with his back swing. According to the Syracuse broadcast on MiLB TV, Henry went down immediately and was visibly shaking in his arm/hand area.

The broadcast also said that medical officials were able to roll Henry from his back onto his side to take him off the field.

The Bisons said that Henry has been taken to a Syracuse-area hospital and is alert and responsive.

The team will provide further updates on Saturday.

The Mets were leading 4-2, and the game will go down as completed.

Henry was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a minor-league free agent in the off-season. The 26-year-old appeared in MLB games with the Miami Marlins in 2021 and 2022.
