New additions Yesavage and Bloss featured on Blue Jays' updated top 30 prospects list

There are some new faces at the top of the Toronto Blue Jays‘ prospects list.

MLB Pipeline updated its prospect rankings on Tuesday, and recent additions Trey Yesavage and Jake Bloss are listed as the No. 2 and No. 3 ranked prospects in Toronto’s system respectively.

Yesavage, a 21-year-old right-handed pitcher, was selected by the Blue Jays 20th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft. He had a 2.03 ERA and 145 strikeouts in 93.1 innings at East Carolina in the NCAA this year.

Bloss, who was recently acquired by the Blue Jays from the Houston Astros in the deal for Yusei Kikuchi, made his organizational debut with triple-A Buffalo on Saturday. He pitched 2.2 scoreless innings while striking out two batters.

The 23-year-old right-hander made three MLB starts with the Astros in June and July, posting a 6.94 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched.

Toronto’s No. 1 ranked prospect is Orelvis Martinez. The 22-year-old infielder is currently on the suspended list after he was dealt an 80-game suspension by MLB in June for violating the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Martinez tested positive for clomiphene, a performance-enhancing substance. His suspension will run through Toronto’s 156th game of the regular season. He will be eligible to return to play during the club’s final homestand, which includes a pair of three-game series against the Boston Red Sox and Miami Marlins.

Left-hander Ricky Tiedemann, who started the year as the Blue Jays’ No. 1 ranked prospect, fell to No. 4 on the list after struggling with injuries over the past two years. Tiedemann was ruled out for the remainder of the year after he underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this month. He pitched just 17.1 innings this season.

The Blue Jays first-round pick in 2023, Arjun Nimmala, is the team’s No. 5 ranked prospect.

In addition to Bloss, six other prospects the Blue Jays acquired at the deadline were included among the top 30.

No. 7 Jonatan Clase, acquired from Seattle for Yimi Garcia.
No. 9 Charles McAdoo, acquired from Pittsburgh for Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
No. 19 Eddinson Paulino, acquired from Boston for Danny Jansen.
No. 20 Will Wagner, acquired from Houston for Yusei Kikuchi.
No. 24 Cutter Coffey, acquired from Boston for Danny Jansen.
No. 29 RJ Schreck, acquired from Seattle for Justin Turner.

None of Toronto’s prospects are ranked on MLB Pipeline’s overall top 100 list.

The Toronto Blue Jays recently released an updated list of their top 30 prospects, and two new additions have caught the attention of fans and analysts alike. Right-handed pitcher Alex Yesavage and outfielder Jhonny Bloss have both made their debut on the list, showcasing the depth and talent within the Blue Jays’ farm system.

Yesavage, a 22-year-old from California, was selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2020 MLB Draft. Known for his impressive fastball and slider combination, Yesavage has quickly risen through the ranks of the Blue Jays’ minor league system. In his first professional season in 2021, he posted a 2.45 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched across three levels of the minor leagues. His performance has earned him a spot on the top 30 prospects list and has fans excited about his potential impact at the major league level.

Bloss, a 20-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic, was signed by the Blue Jays as an international free agent in 2019. He has quickly established himself as one of the top prospects in the organization, showcasing a rare combination of power and speed. In his first full season in the minor leagues in 2021, Bloss hit .289 with 12 home runs, 45 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases in 67 games. His performance has earned him a spot on the top 30 prospects list and has fans dreaming of his future contributions to the Blue Jays’ lineup.

The addition of Yesavage and Bloss to the Blue Jays’ top 30 prospects list is a testament to the strength and depth of the organization’s farm system. With a mix of high-ceiling pitchers like Yesavage and dynamic position players like Bloss, the Blue Jays are well-positioned to continue their success at the major league level for years to come. Fans can look forward to seeing these exciting young talents develop and potentially make an impact in Toronto in the near future.
