Netherlands defeats Turkiye to advance to Euro 2024 semifinals against England

The Netherlands advanced to the European Championship semifinals after coming from behind to beat Türkiye 2-1 on Saturday in Berlin. 

Türkiye took a 1-0 lead into halftime with Samet Akaydin’s header in the 35th minute. 

The Netherlands surged in the second half. Stefan de Vrij tied it up with a header of his own in the 70th minute, and Cody Gakpo put the Dutch side ahead just six minutes later.

The Netherlands will now take on England, which defeated Switzerland 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in extra time earlier Saturday to advance. 

France and Spain will meet in the other semifinal matchup.
