Mackenzie Hughes Achieves Two Eagles at Canadian Open

Mackenzie Hughes is having a day to remember at the Canadian Open with two eagles that have launched him up the leaderboard.

It didn’t take long for the Hamilton, Ont., native to make his mark. After recording a birdie on the first hole of the day, Hughes got his second shot on the 12th hole to land in the hole to record his first of two eagles on the day.

On hole four at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club, Hughes relied on his putting to drain his second eagle which put him into the lead temporarily.

Hughes was in a battle with Robert MacIntyre of Scotland for the lead in the morning session. Unfortunately for the Canadian, MacIntyre pushed ahead at 10-under on the day while Hughes lost a bit of momentum after a pair of bogeys saw him go into the clubhouse sitting second after a 7-under 64.

Hughes came into the second day of the tournament tied at 33rd after shooting a 1-under 69 Thursday.

Hughes wasn’t the only Canadian golfer making a move up the leaderboard Friday as Corey Conners moved into the top 10. He had three straight birdies and was at 6-under on the day but struggled a bit at the end but still finished with a 4-under-67.

Canadian golfer Mackenzie Hughes made headlines at the Canadian Open with an impressive performance that included two eagles during the tournament. The 30-year-old from Dundas, Ontario wowed fans and fellow competitors alike with his skill and precision on the course.

Hughes’ first eagle came on the par-5 12th hole during the second round of the tournament. With a perfectly executed approach shot, he was able to sink a long putt for the eagle, much to the delight of the crowd.
