Kings to Acquire DeMar DeRozan in Sign-and-Trade Deal, According to Report

DeMar DeRozan continued to prove his worth through his age-34 season and is getting rewarded for it.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Saturday that the Sacramento Kings will acquire DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls in a sign-and-trade. The Athletic’s Shams Charania says DeRozan has agreed to a three-year, $76-million contract.

The deal, according to Wojnarowski, will see Harrison Barnes go to the San Antonio Spurs and Chris Duarte, two second-round picks and cash go to the Bulls.

The move teams the former Toronto Raptors star up with De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis in a big three for a Kings team that finished 46-36 and ninth in the West last season.

DeRozan, who is set to turn 35 next month, hasn’t yet taken a step back in his NBA career after he finished last year averaging 24.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game while leading the league in minutes with 37.8 per night.

He has found his stride since joining the Bulls ahead of the 2021-22 season, hitting career marks during his three seasons in the Windy City. He is known as one of the best closers in the league and has finished top three in Clutch Player of the Year voting the past two seasons.

The Sacramento Kings are reportedly set to acquire DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade deal, according to a recent report. The deal, which is still pending league approval, would see the Kings send a package of players and draft picks to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for the veteran shooting guard.

DeRozan, who has spent the last three seasons with the Spurs, is coming off a solid campaign where he averaged 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game. The 31-year-old is known for his scoring ability and playmaking skills, making him a valuable addition to the Kings’ roster.

The move to acquire DeRozan signals the Kings’ commitment to improving their roster and making a push for the playoffs next season. With a young core of players like De’Aaron Fox and Tyrese Haliburton already in place, adding a proven veteran like DeRozan could help elevate the team to the next level.

In order to make the deal work, the Kings will need to send out a package of players and draft picks to match DeRozan’s salary. While the specifics of the trade have not been finalized, it is expected that the Kings will part ways with some of their young talent in order to acquire DeRozan.

Overall, the acquisition of DeRozan would be a significant move for the Kings as they look to build a competitive roster for the upcoming season. With his scoring ability and experience, DeRozan could provide a much-needed boost to the team and help them compete in a tough Western Conference.

Fans will have to wait for official confirmation from the league before the deal is officially announced, but if all goes according to plan, DeMar DeRozan could soon be suiting up in a Sacramento Kings jersey. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
