Outfielders Kevin Kiermaier and George Springer were left off the Blue Jays’ starting lineup card on Tuesday ahead of Toronto’s home tilt with the Boston Red Sox.
Addison Barger will patrol the right side of the outfield in place of Springer, while Daulton Varsho slides into the centre-field spot that was overseen by Kiermaier in Toronto’s 7-3 loss to Boston on Monday. Davis Schneider will be in left.
Springer reached base off a broken-bat single in the bottom of the second inning in the loss. The 34-year-old attempted to steal third later in the frame but would watch the inning come to a close with trailing baserunner Ernie Clement being thrown out at second base.
Kiermaier has spent time in and out of the Blue Jays’ lineup over the month of June, generating just two hits in 22 trips to the plate as a starter.
Spencer Horwitz will draw back into the lineup after getting an off day on Monday. Alejandro Kirk will backstop Chris Bassitt as the Jays look to even up the series with their division rival on Tuesday.
