Jarred Tinordi signs one-year, two-way contract with Flames

The Calgary Flames announced Tuesday that they have signed defenceman Jarred Tinordi to a one-year, two-way contract with an average annual value of $800,000.

The 32-year-old spent the 2023-24 season with the Chicago Blackhawks, recording nine assists in 52 games.

Across 205 career NHL games with the Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Blackhawks, Tinordi has a total of 30 points (four goals and 26 assists).

The six-foot-six, 229-pound blue liner was originally drafted by the Canadiens as the 22nd-overall pick in 2010.

The Calgary Flames have added some depth to their defensive lineup by signing Jarred Tinordi to a one-year, two-way contract. The 29-year-old defenseman brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played in the NHL for several seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes, Nashville Predators, and most recently, the Boston Bruins.

Tinordi was originally drafted by the Canadiens in the first round of the 2010 NHL Draft and has since established himself as a reliable stay-at-home defenseman. Standing at 6’6″ and weighing in at 230 pounds, Tinordi is known for his physical presence on the ice and his ability to shut down opposing forwards.

With the Flames, Tinordi will provide some much-needed depth on the blue line and could potentially see some playing time in a bottom-pairing role. His size and physicality will add an extra layer of toughness to the Flames’ defensive corps, which could prove to be valuable in a tough Western Conference.

The two-way nature of Tinordi’s contract means that he could potentially be sent down to the Flames’ AHL affiliate, the Stockton Heat, if he doesn’t crack the NHL lineup. This flexibility gives the Flames some options when it comes to managing their roster and ensuring that they have the best possible lineup on any given night.

Overall, the signing of Jarred Tinordi is a low-risk, high-reward move for the Flames. If he can stay healthy and play up to his potential, he could prove to be a valuable addition to the team’s defensive group. Only time will tell how Tinordi will fit in with his new team, but Flames fans can be hopeful that he will make a positive impact in the upcoming season.
