Jakob Pelletier signs one-year, two-way deal with Flames

The Calgary Flames have agreed to a one-year, two-way contract at $800,000 with forward Jakob Pelletier, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported Thursday.

Flames general manager Craig Conroy previously told reporters was confident he would be able to get a deal done with the restricted free agent.

The 23-year-old Pelletier is coming off a three-year, entry-level deal worth $2.59 million that he signed with the Flames in 2019.

Splitting the 2023-24 season between the Flames and their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers, Pelletier missed a chunk of time due to injuries.

He recorded three points (one goal and two assists) in 13 games with the Flames and 12 points (five goals and seven assists) in 18 games with the Wranglers.

Across 37 career NHL games with the Flames, Pelletier has a total of 10 points (four goals and six assists).

The Quebec City native was selected by the organization 26th overall at the 2019 NHL Draft.

The Calgary Flames have signed forward Jakob Pelletier to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced on Monday. The deal will see Pelletier earn $750,000 at the NHL level and $70,000 at the AHL level.

Pelletier, 20, was selected by the Flames in the first round (26th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft. The Quebec native has spent the past three seasons playing for the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL, where he has consistently been one of the team’s top scorers.

In the 2020-2021 season, Pelletier recorded 14 goals and 30 assists for 44 points in just 28 games. He also represented Canada at the World Junior Championships, where he helped lead the team to a gold medal.

Pelletier is known for his speed, skill, and hockey IQ. He is a versatile forward who can play both wing positions and is effective in all situations, including on the power play and penalty kill.

With his signing, Pelletier will have the opportunity to compete for a roster spot with the Flames during training camp. If he doesn’t make the NHL team out of camp, he will likely start the season with the Stockton Heat, Calgary’s AHL affiliate.

Overall, the signing of Jakob Pelletier is a positive development for the Flames organization. He is a highly skilled prospect with a bright future ahead of him, and fans can look forward to seeing him develop and contribute to the team in the coming years.
