Jake Bloss to start for triple-A Buffalo Sunday following Aaron Sanchez's release

Aaron Sanchez’s Toronto Blue Jays comeback attempts came to an end Tuesday when the right-hander was released by the triple-A Buffalo Bisons.

In 61.1 innings with the Bisons, the 32-year-old posted a 7.92 ERA with 41 strikeouts, 39 walks allowed and 13 home runs given up.

An All-Star for the Blue Jays in 2016, Sanchez spent the first six years of his big-league career with Toronto, pitching to a 3.96 ERA in 571.0 innings.

Sanchez was also a part of the Blue Jays’ 2015 and 2016 trips to the ALCS, pitching in 11 post-season games with a 3.32 ERA and 16 strikeouts over 19 innings.

The Bisons won’t be down a starter, however, as new Blue Jays acquisition Jake Bloss has officially joined the Bisons and is scheduled to start on Sunday, according to Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi.

Bloss, 23, was acquired from the Houston Astros as part of a package for Yusei Kikuchi. The 2023 third-round pick shot through Houston’s system this summer to make his MLB debut with the club in late June.

Over 11.2 MLB innings, Bloss posted a 6.94 ERA with 11 strikeouts and five home runs against.

In his 66.0 minor league innings this summer, Bloss had a 1.64 ERA and 63 strikeouts.

Amid the flurry of moves the Blue Jays made throughout their minor league system on Tuesday, one notable promotion was Oakville, Ont.’s Dasan Brown moving from high-A Vancouver to double-A New Hampshire.

Brown, 22, was selected in the third round of the 2019 draft by the Blue Jays out of high school and has emerged as one of the club’s top outfield prospects. He is ranked as Toronto’s No. 27 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline.

This year in Vancouver, Brown has slashed .257/.363/.411 with eight home runs and 22 stolen bases.

After the Toronto Blue Jays announced the release of pitcher Aaron Sanchez, all eyes are now on Jake Bloss as he is set to start for triple-A Buffalo on Sunday. Bloss, a promising young talent in the Blue Jays organization, has been making waves in the minor leagues with his impressive performances on the mound.

The decision to release Sanchez, who has struggled with injuries and inconsistency in recent years, comes as a surprise to many fans and analysts. However, the Blue Jays are clearly looking towards the future and are giving Bloss an opportunity to showcase his skills at the highest level of minor league baseball.

Bloss, a 23-year-old right-hander, was drafted by the Blue Jays in the second round of the 2017 MLB Draft. Since then, he has steadily climbed through the ranks of the organization, impressing coaches and scouts with his strong fastball and sharp breaking ball.

In his most recent start for double-A New Hampshire, Bloss threw six scoreless innings, striking out seven batters and allowing just three hits. His performance earned him a promotion to triple-A Buffalo, where he will now have the chance to prove himself against tougher competition.

With the Blue Jays currently in a rebuilding phase, Bloss could be a key piece of their future rotation. If he can continue to pitch well in triple-A, it may not be long before he gets the call to join the big league club in Toronto.

Fans will be eagerly watching Bloss’s start on Sunday, hoping to see him continue his impressive run of form and potentially earn a spot in the Blue Jays’ rotation in the near future. Only time will tell if Bloss can live up to the hype and become a reliable starter for Toronto.
