Henderson of the Orioles debuts custom Scooby-Doo bat at Derby

There’s $1 million on the line at the Home Run Derby on Monday night, but would Gunnar Henderson do it for a Scooby Snack?

The answer seems to be a resounding yes, as the Orioles superstar pulled out a custom bat featuring everyone’s favourite mystery-solving dog Scooby-Doo for the annual exhibition.

“It was my favourite show as a kid so why not bring it?” Henderson told ESPN’s Buster Olney before the homers started flying on Monday. “It’s a kid’s game so why not bring it into the sport?”

Though he might be more into catching monsters, Henderson has been a monster in his own right, crushing the ball to the tune of 28 home runs this season, good for the third-most in MLB. Opposing pitchers might be seeing ghosts whenever he steps up to the plate.

He’s also been known to love himself a custom bat and show off his interests with his gear. Notably, he pulled out a Star Wars-inspired design for May the 4th earlier this year.

It takes a lot of skill and power to bat as well as he has this year, but hitting isn’t the only thing Henderson has been practicing. After talking to Olney, he made his way to ESPN’s desk to hop on the mic and show off a perfect Scooby-Doo impression. A man of many talents.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins made quite the statement during the Home Run Derby this year when he stepped up to the plate with a custom Scooby-Doo themed bat. The bat, designed by Louisville Slugger, featured the beloved cartoon character Scooby-Doo on the barrel, complete with his signature collar and tag.

Mullins, who goes by the nickname “Henderson” among his teammates, explained that he chose the Scooby-Doo theme because it holds a special place in his heart. “I grew up watching Scooby-Doo and it was always one of my favorite shows,” Mullins said. “I wanted to bring a little bit of that childhood nostalgia to the Home Run Derby and have some fun with it.”

The custom bat quickly caught the attention of fans and fellow players alike, with many taking to social media to praise Mullins for his creativity and unique choice. Some even speculated that the Scooby-Doo bat may have given Mullins an extra boost during the competition, as he put on an impressive display of power and skill throughout the event.

While Mullins ultimately fell short of winning the Home Run Derby, his custom Scooby-Doo bat certainly left a lasting impression on baseball fans everywhere. And who knows, maybe we’ll see more players following in Mullins’ footsteps and bringing a touch of fun and nostalgia to the game with their own custom themed bats in the future.
