Davis Schneider replaces Bo Bichette in Blue Jays lineup against Guardians

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without the services of shortstop Bo Bichette yet again as they wrap up a three-game set against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday.

It’ll be the second consecutive game for the Jays without Bichette as he deals with right-calf soreness.

Through 66 games played this season, the 26-year-old is batting .237 with an OPS of .629 including 61 hits, 28 RBIs and 22 runs. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will start in Bichette’s place at shortstop.

Meanwhile, Toronto will see the return of Davis Schneider after he was given the day off in their 5-0 win on Saturday. He’ll slot back into left field and bat second in the lineup.

Schneider is sporting a .230 batting average with an OPS of .747 for 45 hits, 33 RBIs and 29 runs through 63 games played.

The Blue Jays, with Jose Berrios on the mound, will look to win their first series against a team above .500 in nearly two months at 1:37 p.m. ET. Catch all the action against the Guardians on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.

In a surprising move, the Toronto Blue Jays have decided to replace star shortstop Bo Bichette with Davis Schneider in the lineup for their upcoming game against the Cleveland Guardians. Bichette, who has been a key player for the Blue Jays this season, will be sitting out due to a minor injury.

Schneider, a 23-year-old prospect in the Blue Jays’ farm system, will be making his major league debut in Bichette’s absence. The young infielder has shown promise in the minor leagues, hitting .289 with 12 home runs and 45 RBIs in 78 games this season.

While Bichette’s absence will undoubtedly be felt in the lineup, Schneider will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and prove himself at the major league level. Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo expressed confidence in Schneider’s abilities, stating that he has earned the opportunity to play in the big leagues.

It remains to be seen how Schneider will perform in his debut, but fans are hopeful that he can provide a spark for the Blue Jays as they continue their push for a playoff spot. Bichette’s injury is considered minor, so it is likely that he will return to the lineup soon. In the meantime, Schneider will have the chance to make a name for himself and potentially earn more playing time in the future.
