Corey Conners from Canada makes strong start at BMW Championship

Canada’s Corey Conners needs a solid result this week to secure a spot in next week’s Tour Championship.

So far, so good.

The Listowel, Ont., golfer walked off the BMW Championship course two shots off the lead held by American Keegan Bradley, after shooting 4-under 68 in the first round on Thursday in Castle Rock, Colo.

Conners entered the week tied for 33rd in the FedExCup standings. The top 30 after this week’s event (featuring the top 50 players) advance to the Tour Championship, an event Conners has qualified for the past three years.

“Just business as usual,” Conners told reporters after birdieing three of his final four holes. “I’ve been in a similar position the last few years needing to have a good week here. Yeah, just having fun playing golf and happy to have gotten off to a good start today.”

Conners currently is in a four-way tie for third at the tournament. If the event ended right now, he’d be 20th in the season standings.

Hideki Matsuyama of Japan is one stroke back of the tourney lead and solo second.

Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont., shot even par. He entered the week in 27th in the standings.

Adam Hadwin of Abbotsford, B.C., ranked 42nd in the season standings, shot 4-over 76.

Canadian golfer Corey Conners got off to a strong start at the BMW Championship, the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Conners, who hails from Listowel, Ontario, shot a solid 4-under 68 in the opening round of the tournament, putting him in contention early on.

The 29-year-old has been having a successful season on the PGA Tour, with a win at the Valero Texas Open earlier this year and several other top-10 finishes. His consistent play has earned him a spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, where he is currently ranked 33rd in the standings.

Conners’ strong start at the BMW Championship is a good sign for his chances of making it to the Tour Championship, the final event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. With only the top 30 players in the standings advancing to the Tour Championship, every shot counts at this stage of the season.

Conners will be looking to build on his solid opening round and continue his strong play throughout the tournament. With his ball-striking ability and steady putting, he has the skills to compete with the best players in the world and make a run at the FedEx Cup title.

Golf fans in Canada will be eagerly following Conners’ progress at the BMW Championship, cheering him on as he represents his home country on the international stage. With his talent and determination, Conners has the potential to make a name for himself as one of Canada’s top golfers and a contender on the PGA Tour for years to come.
