Cooper Kupp to be sidelined for an extended period of time due to ankle injury, confirms Rams

The Los Angeles Rams can’t seem to catch a break.

Head coach Sean McVay told reporters Monday that star wide receiver Cooper Kupp is expected to miss an “extended period of time” after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals, according to The Athletic‘s Jourdan Rodrigue.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter added that McVay said Kupp is a candidate to go on injured reserve.

The injury occurred late in the second quarter after Kupp caught a pass over the middle for 24 yards. He got sandwiched by two Cardinals defenders on the tackle and seemed to get his ankle caught in a weird spot on the play. He went back to the team’s locker room under his own weight but was seen limping.

The former offensive player of the year had four catches for 37 yards before exiting the game.

Kupp, 31, struggled with injuries last season and finished with only 59 receptions for 737 yards and five touchdowns. However, he looked to be back in a rhythm in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions, finishing with 14 receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.

The Rams’ depth at wide receiver was already being tested after last year’s breakout receiver for L.A., Puka Nacua, suffered a knee injury in Week 1 and is expected to miss 5-7 weeks, according to Schefter.

Los Angeles is set to host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 as it looks to overcome the tolls injuries have taken on the roster and pick up its first win of the season.

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp will be sidelined for an extended period of time due to an ankle injury, the team confirmed on Monday. Kupp suffered the injury during the Rams’ game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday and was seen leaving the field on crutches.

The loss of Kupp is a significant blow to the Rams’ offense, as he has been one of their most productive receivers this season. In nine games, Kupp has recorded 53 receptions for 600 yards and six touchdowns. He has been a favorite target of quarterback Jared Goff and has been a key contributor to the team’s success.

Head coach Sean McVay expressed his disappointment over Kupp’s injury, stating that he is a valuable player and leader on the team. McVay also mentioned that Kupp will undergo further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury and the timeline for his return.

In Kupp’s absence, the Rams will need other receivers to step up and fill the void. Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks are expected to take on larger roles in the offense, while Josh Reynolds and Mike Thomas could see increased playing time as well.

Despite the setback, the Rams remain optimistic about their chances moving forward. They currently sit at 6-3 and are in the thick of the playoff race in the competitive NFC West division. The team will need to rally together and overcome Kupp’s absence in order to continue their pursuit of a postseason berth.

As for Kupp, his focus will now shift to rehabilitating his ankle and getting back on the field as soon as possible. His presence will be sorely missed by the Rams, but they are confident that he will make a full recovery and return stronger than ever. In the meantime, the team will have to adjust their game plan and find ways to win without one of their top playmakers.
