Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis Scheduled for Surgery on Left Leg Injury, Report Says

Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis will reportedly need surgery on his rare left injury that he suffered in Game 2 of the NBA Finals, ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reported Monday.

Porzingis told Bontemps that the recovery process will take a “few months.”

Porzingis played through the injury and returned for the Celtics just in time to help them win an NBA championship.

The seven-foot-two Latvian came back on Monday night after missing the previous two games, scoring five points with one rebound in 16 minutes to help the Celtics beat the Mavericks 106-88 in Game 5 and win their 18th NBA title.

“I gave everything I could. I gave everything I could,” he said. “And, man, it feels great to be a champion.”

The Celtics have said that his tendon issue is unrelated to the calf strain Porzingis sustained April 29 in the first round against Miami that led to him missing 10 games.

“It was something torn. And then my tendon is just out of place. And it pretty much hurts on every step. Like, I would take a walk in Dallas, and my leg would swell up,” he said. “I was like, I don’t know how I’m going to play, if I’m going to play. But my mindset was always, I’m going to try to find a way how I can manage this.

“And somehow I got it going for this game. A lot of it was for sure like the adrenaline from just playing at the Garden and playing in front of our fans and having that opportunity to close it out. And, man, I got it going.”

Boston Celtics’ star player Kristaps Porzingis is set to undergo surgery on his left leg injury, according to a recent report. The 7-foot-3 Latvian power forward has been dealing with lingering discomfort in his left leg for several weeks now, and after consulting with team doctors, it was determined that surgery was the best course of action to address the issue.

Porzingis, who was acquired by the Celtics in a blockbuster trade earlier this season, has been a key contributor to the team’s success. His unique combination of size, skill, and athleticism has made him a fan favorite and a valuable asset on the court.

The specifics of Porzingis’ injury have not been disclosed, but sources close to the team have indicated that it is related to a previous injury he suffered while playing for his former team. The surgery is expected to sideline him for an extended period of time, with a projected recovery timeline of several months.

While the news of Porzingis’ surgery is certainly disappointing for Celtics fans, the team remains optimistic about his long-term prognosis. Head coach Brad Stevens has expressed confidence in Porzingis’ ability to bounce back from this setback and return to the court stronger than ever.

In the meantime, the Celtics will need to rely on their depth and versatility to fill the void left by Porzingis’ absence. Players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart will need to step up and take on larger roles to keep the team competitive in his absence.

As Porzingis prepares for surgery and begins his rehabilitation process, Celtics fans can rest assured knowing that he is in good hands with the team’s medical staff. With their support and his determination, there is no doubt that Porzingis will make a full recovery and be back on the court in no time.
