Ceci benched, Kane to join lineup for Game 2 of Stanley Cup Final for Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers are making a change on the blue line for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final.

At morning skate, Vincent Desharnais took Cody Ceci‘s spot on the Oilers’ second defensive pairing with Darnell Nurse. Head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed that Ceci would be scratched from the lineup.

The pairing of Ceci and Nurse took criticism for their performance in Game 1 after being on the ice for two goals against. This will be the first time during his time with the Oilers that Ceci will be a healthy scratch.

Desharnais has not played since Game 3 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars.

Despite missing the team’s morning skate, Evander Kane said he would be in the lineup for Game 2. Adam Henrique took Kane’s spot on the second line with Dylan Holloway and Leon Draisaitl.

Knoblauch did not confirm if Kane will play on the second line and added that Sam Carrick is also an option to play but another forward will have to come out to make room for him.

In a surprising move, Edmonton Oilers head coach Dave Tippett has decided to bench veteran forward Alex Chiasson in favor of inserting star winger Evander Kane into the lineup for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. This decision comes after Chiasson struggled to make an impact in Game 1, while Kane has been chomping at the bit to get back into the lineup after serving a suspension in the previous round.

Chiasson, who has been a solid contributor for the Oilers throughout the playoffs, has seen his production dip in recent games. Tippett made the tough decision to sit him in favor of Kane, who brings a combination of skill, speed, and physicality to the lineup. Kane is known for his ability to create scoring chances and bring a physical presence to the ice, which could be crucial in a high-stakes game like the Stanley Cup Final.

While some fans may question Tippett’s decision to bench Chiasson, it’s important to remember that coaches often have to make tough choices in order to give their team the best chance to win. Kane’s addition to the lineup could provide a much-needed spark for the Oilers, who are looking to even the series after dropping Game 1 to the defending champions.

It will be interesting to see how Kane performs in his first game back from suspension and how his presence impacts the Oilers’ lineup. With the Stanley Cup on the line, every decision matters, and Tippett is hoping that inserting Kane into the lineup will give his team the edge they need to come out on top in Game 2. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting and intense matchup between two powerhouse teams vying for hockey’s ultimate prize.
