Brandon Montour signs a seven-year contract with the Seattle Kraken

One of the highest-scoring defencemen in the NHL has found a new home.

Brandon Montour and Seattle Kraken have agreed to a seven-year, $50-million contract, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Monday.

Montour, 29, had eight goals and 33 points in 66 games this season for the Panthers before helping them to their first Stanley Cup win in franchise history.

In 2022-23, he had 73 points to tie for fifth in scoring by a defenceman.

Montour, 30, is a 10-year NHL veteran who has played for the Ducks, Sabres and Panthers. He is coming off a three-year, $10.5-million contract.

The Seattle Kraken have made a significant move in securing their defensive core by signing Brandon Montour to a seven-year contract. The deal, reportedly worth $35 million, solidifies Montour as a key player for the expansion team as they look to establish themselves in the NHL.

Montour, a 27-year-old defenseman, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Kraken. He has spent time with the Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks, and most recently, the Florida Panthers. Known for his offensive prowess and strong skating ability, Montour is expected to be a valuable asset on both ends of the ice for Seattle.

The signing of Montour is a clear indication of the Kraken’s commitment to building a competitive roster. With his ability to contribute offensively and play a solid defensive game, Montour will be a key piece of the team’s blue line for years to come.

In addition to his on-ice contributions, Montour’s leadership and experience will also be valuable assets for the Kraken. As a veteran player in the league, he will be able to provide guidance and mentorship to the younger players on the team, helping to create a strong team culture and identity.

Overall, the signing of Brandon Montour is a significant move for the Seattle Kraken as they continue to build their roster ahead of their inaugural season. With his skill, experience, and leadership qualities, Montour is poised to make a big impact for the team both on and off the ice. Fans can look forward to seeing him in action as the Kraken take to the ice in the upcoming season.
