Bo Bichette reinstated from IL by Blue Jays, Steward Berroa optioned

The Toronto Blue Jays are getting a much-needed offensive piece back from the IL as they try to snap their losing streak.

All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette has been reinstated from the IL after missing the last nine games with a right calf strain and will be active for the game against the Boston Red Sox Tuesday, the team announced.

Outfielder Steward Berroa was optioned to triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

“It’s tough because it’s your everyday shortstop and a big part of your team,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider said last week before their previous series against the Red Sox started.

Bichette, 26, has struggled this season, batting a career-low .237 with a .629 OPS. He has four home runs and 28 RBIs in 66 games this season.

Berroa, meanwhile, was called up to the majors following the suspension to Orelvis Martinez for performance enhancing drugs. The 25-year-old appeared in two games as a pinch runner and defensive substitution but did not get an at-bat.

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a roster move, reinstating star shortstop Bo Bichette from the injured list. Bichette had been sidelined with a hand injury since April 22nd, but he is now ready to rejoin the team and make an impact on the field once again.

Bichette, 23, has been one of the Blue Jays’ best players this season, hitting .275 with five home runs and 22 RBIs in 23 games before his injury. His return is a welcome sight for a team that has struggled to find consistency in his absence.

In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays have optioned infielder Steward Berroa to Triple-A Buffalo. Berroa, 24, appeared in just one game for the Blue Jays this season, going 0-for-3 at the plate. With Bichette back in the lineup, Berroa was the odd man out and will now have the opportunity to continue developing his skills in the minor leagues.

The Blue Jays are currently in fourth place in the American League East with a record of 22-17. With Bichette back in the lineup, they will look to make a push for a playoff spot in the second half of the season.

Fans of the Blue Jays will be excited to see Bichette back on the field and contributing to the team’s success. His return should provide a much-needed boost to an offense that has struggled at times this season.
