    Bo Bichette of the Blue Jays records first extra-base hit during rehab assignment

    Bo Bichette came up big for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Saturday night.

    After beginning the night 0-for-3, the Toronto Blue Jays shortstop stepped to the plate with a runner on second in the top of the seventh and drove a double into the gap, picking up the game-winning RBI.

    It was Bichette’s second hard-hit ball of the night. Earlier in the contest, he hit a 350-foot fly out to left field.

    Bichette played shortstop and hit second in Buffalo’s 4-1 win over the Gwinnett Stripers. He was pinch-hit for by Riley Tirotta in the top of the ninth.

    The two-time All-Star is now 4-for-14 with three singles and a double through four games of his rehab stint with the Bisons.

    Blue Jays manager John Schneider spoke on Bichette’s progress Friday while appearing on Blair & Barker.

    “Things are going well for him,” the big league skipper said. “We’re just kind of seeing how he feels after each game and kinda going from there. Everything has gone according to plan in terms of the number of innings and number of at-bats.”

    Schneider added that there was “no definite timetable” for Bichette to return to the Blue Jays lineup.

    The 26-year-old had not played since July 19 due to a calf strain. He has been on the injured list twice this season because of the same injury.

    Bichette was in the midst of the poorest offensive output of his six-year career before the injury with a .222/.275/.320 slash line and just four home runs through 80 games this season.
