Blue Jays' Garcia leaves game against Guardians due to right elbow soreness

Toronto Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia exited Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians during his ninth-inning closing appearance.

Manager John Schneider told reporters after the game that he was dealing with right elbow soreness.

Facing Guardians second baseman Andres Gimenez with two outs, Garcia was pulled from the game after a first-pitch ball, with both Schneider and trainer Jose Ministral visiting the mound.

Garcia was replaced by Nate Pearson.

Garcia entered the game in the ninth inning with the Blue Jays leading 7-4 and proceeded to force a flyball to get the first out.

The right-hander ran into some trouble afterwards, giving up a single to Daniel Schneemann and then a two-run homer to Brayan Rocchio.

Garcia would get the second out before a pair of Guardians singles put a runner on first and third base to threaten the Blue Jays’ one-run lead.

Gimenez came up to the plate and Garcia exited soon after. Pearson recorded the final out and the Blue Jays escaped with a 7-6 win.

The Blue Jays are dealing with a bevy of injuries to their pitchers, with usual closer Jordan Romano on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. Starter Alek Manoah was also shut down for the season after undergoing UCL surgery.

Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Leury Garcia was forced to leave the game against the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday due to right elbow soreness. The injury occurred in the top of the fourth inning when Garcia made a throw from right field to home plate. After the throw, Garcia immediately signaled to the Blue Jays’ dugout that something was wrong.

Garcia was seen grimacing in pain as he walked off the field with a trainer by his side. The extent of the injury is not yet known, but any issue with the elbow is cause for concern, especially for a player who relies on his arm strength in the outfield.

The loss of Garcia could be a significant blow to the Blue Jays, who are currently fighting for a playoff spot in a tight American League Wild Card race. Garcia has been a key contributor for the team since being acquired from the Chicago White Sox in July, providing solid defense and speed on the basepaths.

Manager Charlie Montoyo expressed his concern for Garcia after the game, stating that they would have to wait for further evaluation before determining the severity of the injury. In the meantime, the Blue Jays will likely have to rely on their depth to fill Garcia’s spot in the lineup.

Elbow injuries can be tricky for baseball players, as they can often linger and affect a player’s performance even after they return to action. The Blue Jays will be hoping for the best for Garcia and that he can make a quick recovery to help them in their push for a playoff berth.
