A routine start for Texas Rangers pitcher Michael Lorenzen turned into anything but on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
With two outs to begin the bottom of the first inning, Lorenzen couldn’t get another and was pulled after allowing seven straight base runners, including four runs on five hits and two walks.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. opened the offensive floodgates for the Blue Jays with a single that Rangers third baseman Josh Smith couldn’t get a hold on the ball. Justin Turner also singled and Daulton Varsho cashed them in with a three-run homer to put the Blue Jays up 3-1.
Alejandro Kirk singled and Davis Schneider walked to put two on once more.
The Blue Jays went up 4-1 when Ernie Clement hit a single to centre that outfielder Leody Taveras bobbled to bring home Kirk.
Another walk to Steward Berroa loaded the bases and that was enough for Rangers manager Bruce Bochy, who pulled Lorenzen for reliever José Ureña.
George Springer, who led off with a strikeout, popped up to right field to finally end the inning.
