Blue Jays' Bichette to play against Mariners, Springer sidelined

The Toronto Blue Jays are making some changes to their starting lineup against the Seattle Mariners.

Shortstop Bo Bichette returns to the lineup after being a late scratch for the series finale against the Houston Astros on Thursday with a right forearm contusion while outfielder George Springer is not in the starting lineup.

Addison Barger will take Springer’s place in right field and will bat seventh in the lineup. Spencer Horwitz moves back up to the leadoff position, with Bichette at the No. 2 spot.

Bichette is still struggling to break out offensively, batting just .148 in the past seven games with four hits in 27 at-bats.

Bichette and the Blue Jays will try to rebound from a disappointing home stand when they take on the AL West-leading Mariners. Watch the action starting at 9:40 p.m. ET / 6:40 p.m. PT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet +.

The Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up to face off against the Seattle Mariners, with shortstop Bo Bichette set to take the field. However, the team will be without the services of outfielder George Springer, who is sidelined with an injury.

Bichette, who has been a key player for the Blue Jays this season, will look to continue his strong performance at the plate and in the field. The 23-year-old has been a consistent presence in the lineup, hitting .275 with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs so far this season. His speed and defensive skills have also been a valuable asset for the team.

On the other hand, the absence of George Springer will be felt by the Blue Jays. The veteran outfielder has been dealing with a knee injury that has kept him out of action for the past few games. Springer, who signed a six-year, $150 million contract with the Blue Jays in the offseason, has been a key addition to the team’s lineup, hitting .269 with 16 home runs and 41 RBIs in just 78 games this season.

Despite Springer’s absence, the Blue Jays will look to continue their push for a playoff spot as they take on the Mariners. The team currently sits in fourth place in the American League East, just a few games back from a Wild Card spot. With Bichette leading the charge, the Blue Jays will look to secure a crucial series win against the Mariners and keep their postseason hopes alive.
