Bethel-Thompson to start at QB for Elks against Tiger-Cats as Ford is ruled out

Edmonton Elks quarterback Tre Ford has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Ford was placed on the one-game injured list on Friday after suffering a rib injury against the B.C. Lions last week.

In his place, the Elks will turn back to McLeod Bethel-Thompson who was benched in favour of Ford. The veteran came into the game last week when Ford was forced to leave following a sack by defensive end Sione Teuhema after being chased down by linebacker Ryder Varga.

Bethel-Thompson, who was named the Elks starting quarterback to begin the season, has thrown for 1,959 yards, 10 touchdowns, and eight interceptions but has an 0-7 record.

After coming in to replace Bethel-Thompson, Ford won his first two starts, completing 35-of-45 passes for 473 yards, five touchdowns and an interception.

The Edmonton Elks will be turning to quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson to lead the team against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this week, as starting QB Taylor Ford has been ruled out due to injury.

Bethel-Thompson, who has been with the Elks since 2019, will be stepping into the starting role for the first time this season. The 33-year-old quarterback has shown flashes of potential in his limited playing time, completing 65.7% of his passes for 1,087 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2020.

Despite his lack of starting experience this season, Bethel-Thompson is no stranger to the pressure of leading a team. He has started games for the Toronto Argonauts in the past and has proven to be a capable and reliable quarterback.

The Elks will be looking to Bethel-Thompson to provide stability and leadership on offense as they face a tough Tiger-Cats defense. With a record of 2-4 so far this season, the Elks are in need of a win to stay in contention in the West Division.

While losing Ford is certainly a blow to the Elks, Bethel-Thompson’s experience and skill set make him a solid choice to step in and lead the team. Fans will be eager to see how he performs in his first start of the season and whether he can help guide the Elks to victory against the Tiger-Cats.
