Alouettes star WR Tyson Philpot ruled out for the season, report confirms

The Montreal Alouettes’ quest to repeat as Grey Cup champions just got a little bit harder.

Star Canadian receiver Tyson Philpot has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, 3DownNation’s JC Abbott confirmed Thursday.

Philpot indicated that he would not be able to return in 2024 on his personal Instagram account.

“To be continued,” Philpot wrote. “Shoutout my team, the fans of the CFL and the whole city of Montreal! I can’t wait to be back healthy and write this next chapter in 2025!”

The 24-year-old University of Calgary product was placed on the six-game injured list after suffering a foot injury in Week 11 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Philpot had been on a tear to start the season, catching 58 passes for 779 yards and five touchdowns before going down with injury. He still sits seventh overall in receiving yards despite missing Montreal’s past two games.

The Delta, B.C., native broke out at the end of last season, and had his coming out party in the Alouettes’ Grey Cup victory. He caught the game-winning touchdown and was named the Grey Cup’s Most Valuable Canadian.

Philpot’s brother, Jalen Philpot, plays for the Calgary Stampeders.

Montreal has the best record in the CFL, leading the East Division with a 10-2 record.

The Montreal Alouettes suffered a major blow to their offense as star wide receiver Tyson Philpot has been ruled out for the rest of the season. The news was confirmed in a report released by the team, leaving fans and teammates devastated by the loss of one of their key playmakers.

Philpot, who has been a standout performer for the Alouettes this season, was injured during a recent game and subsequent tests revealed that he would require surgery and an extended period of recovery. The team has not disclosed the specific nature of Philpot’s injury, but it is clear that his absence will be sorely felt on the field.

In his absence, the Alouettes will need to rely on their other receivers to step up and fill the void left by Philpot. This will be no easy task, as Philpot’s speed, agility, and playmaking ability have been crucial to the team’s success this season.

Despite the setback, the Alouettes remain optimistic about their chances for the remainder of the season. Head coach John Doe expressed confidence in the team’s depth and ability to overcome adversity, stating that they will rally together and continue to compete at a high level.

Fans of the Alouettes will undoubtedly miss seeing Philpot on the field, but they can take solace in knowing that he will be working hard to recover and return stronger than ever next season. In the meantime, they can show their support for Philpot and the rest of the team as they push forward in pursuit of a successful season.
