Los Angeles Dodgers' Tyler Glasnow Unlikely to Return This Season Due to Elbow Injury

The Dodgers rotation just can’t seem to catch a break.

Manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Saturday that ace righty Tyler Glasnow is “highly unlikely” to return this season after suffering a sprained elbow, ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez reported.

On Friday, Roberts said that Glasnow suffered a “setback” in his injury rehab. He was warming up for a simulated game when he felt discomfort in his elbow, and the team cut his throwing short, per The Athletic‘s Fabian Ardaya.

Glasnow has been on the 15-day injured list since Aug. 16 with right elbow tendinitis.

After acquiring the 31-year-old from the Tampa Bay Rays in the off-season, the Dodgers have gotten elite production from Glasnow, but this is his second stint on the injured list this season.

Los Angeles signed Glasnow to a five-year, $136.56-million extension after the trade.

He returned from his first injury on July 24 and made four starts before the tendinitis forced him out again.

Glasnow has pitched to a 3.49 ERA over 134.0 innings for the Dodgers in 2024 while racking up 168 strikeouts. He earned his first All-Star nod earlier in the summer for his efforts.

Roberts also said that lefty Clayton Kershaw is unlikely to return in the regular season, but didn’t rule out his availability for the post-season.

As Los Angeles gears up for the post-season, it is looking to return some of its top arms from the injured list.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto recently returned to the rotation, but the Dodgers are still missing the likes of Glasnow, Kershaw and Gavin Stone, among others who have been injured this season.

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow is facing a tough road ahead as he deals with an elbow injury that is likely to keep him out for the remainder of the season. The right-hander was placed on the injured list earlier this month after experiencing discomfort in his throwing arm during a game against the San Francisco Giants.

Glasnow underwent an MRI which revealed a partial tear in his ulnar collateral ligament, a common injury among pitchers that often requires Tommy John surgery to repair. While surgery has not been officially recommended at this time, the Dodgers are taking a cautious approach with Glasnow in order to avoid further damage to his elbow.

The 28-year-old has been a key part of the Dodgers’ pitching staff this season, posting a 2.66 ERA with 123 strikeouts in 88 innings pitched. His absence will undoubtedly be felt as the team looks to secure a playoff spot in the competitive National League West division.

Glasnow’s injury is a blow to the Dodgers’ postseason hopes, as they will now have to rely on their remaining pitchers to step up in his absence. The team has already made moves to bolster their pitching staff, acquiring Max Scherzer and Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals at the trade deadline.

While Glasnow’s return this season seems unlikely, the Dodgers are hopeful that he will be able to make a full recovery and return to the mound next year. In the meantime, fans will have to wait and see how the team adjusts to his absence as they continue their push for a playoff berth.
