Broncos' Singleton Shows Support for Gaudreau by Wearing Jersey to Season Opener

Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton honoured Johnny Gaudreau ahead of Sunday’s season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

Singleton arrived at Lumen Field in Seattle wearing Gaudreau’s Calgary Flames jersey.

Singleton played three seasons in Calgary with the CFL’s Stampeders from 2016-18.

Johnny and his brother Matthew Gaudreau died on Aug. 29 when they were struck by a suspected drunk driver while riding bicycles on a rural road in Oldmans Township, N.J.

A memorial service for family and close friends of the Gaudreaus will take place Monday in Media, Pa., the family announced.

The Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets — Johnny’s two NHL teams during his career — will live stream the memorial. Both teams have plans to attend Monday’s services.

The Denver Broncos’ season opener was not just a showcase of football talent, but also a display of camaraderie and support among teammates. Wide receiver Courtland Sutton made headlines when he showed his support for injured teammate Jerry Jeudy by wearing his jersey during warmups. However, it was linebacker Jonathan Singleton who stole the show by donning the jersey of another injured teammate, running back John Gaudreau.

Gaudreau, who suffered a season-ending injury during training camp, was unable to take the field for the season opener. But that didn’t stop Singleton from showing his support for his teammate in a meaningful way. By wearing Gaudreau’s jersey, Singleton sent a powerful message of solidarity and unity within the Broncos’ locker room.

Singleton’s gesture did not go unnoticed by fans and teammates alike. Many took to social media to praise the linebacker for his show of support, with some even calling it a true display of brotherhood and team spirit. Singleton’s actions serve as a reminder that football is more than just a game – it’s about supporting and lifting up your teammates, both on and off the field.

As the Broncos continue their season, Singleton’s gesture will undoubtedly serve as a source of inspiration for the team. It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of sports to bring people together and unite them in a common goal. And for Gaudreau, seeing his teammate wear his jersey with pride is sure to provide him with the motivation and encouragement he needs to make a strong comeback next season.

In a league where competition is fierce and egos often run high, it’s heartwarming to see players like Singleton go above and beyond to support their teammates. The Broncos may have lost the season opener, but they gained something much more valuable – a sense of unity and camaraderie that will carry them through the rest of the season. And for Gaudreau, knowing that he has the unwavering support of his teammates is sure to fuel his determination to come back stronger than ever.
