Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit to miss five-to-seven weeks following knee surgery

The Chicago Blackhawks are in danger of starting the 2024-25 regular season without goaltender Laurent Brossoit.

Brossoit underwent successful meniscus surgery in his right knee and he is expected to be fully recovered in five-to-seven weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

The Blackhawks’ first game of the regular season is Oct. 8, exactly six weeks from Wednesday. So, Brossoit’s status for Chicago’s first game is certainly up in the air.

Brossoit signed a two-year, $6.6-million deal with Chicago this off-season. He joined Petr Mrazek in the Chicago goaltending room.

Last season, Brossoit was 15-5-2 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .927 save percentage for the Winnipeg Jets.

The 31-year-old has a career 2.64 GAA and .911 save percentage in 140 games with the Edmonton Oilers, Jets and Vegas Golden Knights.

Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Laurent Brossoit will be sidelined for the next five to seven weeks after undergoing knee surgery. The 28-year-old netminder sustained the injury during a recent game and it was determined that surgery was necessary to repair the damage.

Brossoit, who signed with the Blackhawks in the offseason, has been a key player for the team this season, posting a 2.89 goals against average and a .902 save percentage in 10 games. His absence will be felt by the team as they look to continue their push for a playoff spot in the competitive Central Division.

In Brossoit’s absence, the Blackhawks will turn to backup goaltender Kevin Lankinen to shoulder the load in net. Lankinen has performed admirably this season, posting a 2.93 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 14 games.

Despite the setback, the Blackhawks remain optimistic about their chances moving forward. Head coach Derek King expressed confidence in Lankinen’s ability to step up in Brossoit’s absence and lead the team to success.

The team will also be looking to their defense to tighten up and provide support for Lankinen as they navigate through this challenging stretch without Brossoit. With key matchups on the horizon, the Blackhawks will need to come together as a team and continue to compete at a high level in order to stay in the playoff race.

As Brossoit begins his road to recovery, the Blackhawks will be eagerly awaiting his return to the lineup. In the meantime, they will be focused on staying competitive and continuing to push for a postseason berth in what promises to be an exciting second half of the season.
