Kelly to start second game of doubleheader for Red Sox, Eisert added to Blue Jays roster

The Toronto Blue Jays‘ quest for an unofficial six-game winning streak will go through Zack Kelly. At least to start.

According to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo, Kelly will get the ball for the Boston Red Sox to start the second game of Monday’s doubleheader against the Blue Jays.

Kelly will face off against Blue Jays starter Jose Berrios. The Blue Jays won Monday’s first game 4-1 in a resumption of a June 26 game that was postponed due to rain.

The Blue Jays swept the Angels in a four-game series before arriving in Boston. Monday’s win in Game 1 will be credited for occurring on June 26, thus not counting towards their current win streak.

Kelly, 29, will be making his third start of the season for the Red Sox. He has a 2.74 ERA over 49.1 innings in 2024.

The Blue Jays also made a roster move, as they added left-handed reliever Brandon Eisert from triple-A Buffalo as their 27th man for Monday night’s game. MLB teams are able to add a 27th man to the 26-man roster for the day of a doubleheader.

Eisert, 26, has appeared in two games for the Blue Jays in 2024. He has a 5.79 ERA over 4.2 innings pitched. Over 44.2 innings with triple-A Buffalo, Eisert has a 4.03 ERA.

Boston announced that its 27th man will be left-hander Bailey Horn.

The Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays made some notable roster moves ahead of their doubleheader on Tuesday, with Kelly getting the nod to start the second game for the Red Sox and Eisert being added to the Blue Jays roster.

For the Red Sox, Kelly will be taking the mound for the second game of the doubleheader against the Blue Jays. The 32-year-old right-hander has been a reliable arm out of the bullpen for the Red Sox this season, posting a 3.38 ERA in 16 appearances. Kelly will be looking to build on his recent success and help the Red Sox secure a win in the second game of the doubleheader.

On the other side, the Blue Jays made a roster move by adding Eisert to their roster. The 24-year-old left-hander was called up from Triple-A Buffalo, where he has been impressive this season with a 2.45 ERA in 12 appearances. Eisert will provide some depth to the Blue Jays bullpen and could see some action in the doubleheader against the Red Sox.

Both teams will be looking to secure wins in the doubleheader as they continue to jockey for position in the competitive AL East division. The Red Sox currently sit in second place behind the Tampa Bay Rays, while the Blue Jays are just a few games back in fourth place.

It will be interesting to see how Kelly and Eisert perform in their respective roles in the doubleheader and how their contributions impact the outcome of the games. Fans can expect an exciting matchup between these two division rivals as they battle it out on the diamond.
