Jordan Romano expected to return to majors with Blue Jays in 2024

Jordan Romano is on the path back to the big leagues after undergoing elbow surgery in early July.

According to Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling, the 31-year-old right-hander is expected to begin a throwing progression next week. Romano initially had surgery to repair an impingement in his right elbow on July 3.

Although Romano’s return to MLB in 2024 was up in the air, Zwelling reported that the Toronto Blue Jays intend to have him back with the club before the end of the season.

Romano had a difficult beginning to his season, starting the year on the injured list after receiving an anti-inflammatory injection in spring training. He returned on April 16 but went back on the IL before getting another injection and undergoing the surgery.

The Markham, Ont. native struggled to a 6.59 ERA over 13.2 innings when he managed to take the mound for Toronto. He picked up eight saves, but struggled to keep the ball in the yard, allowing four home runs.

Romano was named an All-Star in 2023 and climbed to third all-time in Blue Jays history with his 105th career save on May 29.

For his career, Romano has a 2.90 ERA with 285 strikeouts over 229.2 innings.

After a successful stint in the minor leagues, pitcher Jordan Romano is expected to make his return to the majors with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2024. The 29-year-old right-hander has been making waves in the minor leagues with his impressive performance on the mound.

Romano was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the 10th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut in 2019 and showed promise with a 3.18 ERA in 15 appearances. However, he struggled with injuries in the following seasons, which led to him being sent back down to the minors.

Despite the setbacks, Romano continued to work hard and improve his game. In 2023, he had a breakout season in the minors, posting a 2.45 ERA with 97 strikeouts in 73.1 innings pitched. His performance caught the attention of the Blue Jays’ coaching staff, who are now eager to bring him back to the majors.

With his impressive fastball and sharp breaking ball, Romano has the potential to be a key contributor to the Blue Jays’ pitching staff in 2024. His return to the majors is highly anticipated by fans and analysts alike, who believe he has what it takes to make a significant impact at the highest level.

As Romano prepares for his return to the majors, he is focused on staying healthy and continuing to refine his pitching skills. With his determination and talent, he is poised to make a strong comeback and help lead the Blue Jays to success in the upcoming season.
