Jake Bloss pitched 2.2 scoreless innings in his Toronto Blue Jays organizational debut with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons on Saturday night.

Bloss also struck out a pair of batters while giving up three hits and a walk in the outing against the Rochester Red Wings. He was pulled as the Bisons were leading 1-0.

The 23-year-old right-hander was a key piece of the compensation package the Blue Jays received when trading starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi to the Houston Astros on July 30.

Bloss is currently rated as the No. 3 prospect in the Blue Jays’ farm system according to MLB.com. He’s behind Ricky Tiedemann and Orelvis Martinez.

The Greensboro, N.C., native has excelled in the minor leagues this season, posting a 1.61 ERA in 44.2 innings over eight appearances at the double-A level. He also made an appearance with the Astros’ triple-A affiliate, throwing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

Bloss was called up to the Astros for three starts in June and July before being dealt, posting a 6.94 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched.
