Canadian Women's Olympic 3x3 Basketball Team Record Drops to 2-1

The Canadian women’s 3×3 basketball team lost its first game at the Olympic Games on Thursday, falling 19-15 to Germany in the third game of group play.

Canada was immediately on its heels to start the game against the Germans, but came back to apply some pressure with with time running out. But it wasn’t enough, as Germany was able to defend its lead to take its second win of the tournament.

Canada’s shot just 25 per cent from the two-point range, to Germany’s 57 per cent.

Germany, ranked seventh in the eight-team field, has been on a surprising run, also upsetting the defending-champion United States.

For the second game in a row, Canada’s Michelle Plouffe and Paige Crozon led the scoring for the team, combining for nine of Canada’s 15 points.

Canada’s record now sits at 2-1.

All eight teams play each other in round-robin play. The top two teams earn semifinal berths, while teams ranked third through sixth advance to play-in games.

Canada’s next game is Thursday at 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT vs. France.
