The Montreal Canadiens have locked up one of the NHL’s brightest young blueliners for the next six years.
On Wednesday, Canadiens general Manager Kent Hughes announced a six-year, $33.3 million contract extension for defenseman Kaiden Guhle.
The new deal will see the 22-year-old earn an average annual salary of $5.55 million beginning in the 2025-26 season.
During the 2023-24 season with the Habs, Guhle tallied six goals and 16 assists. He ranked third on the team’s average ice time with 20:51, and second in blocked shots with 178.
In 114 total NHL games, the Sherwood Park, Alta., native has recorded 40 points.
Guhle, who was selected by Montreal in the first round (16th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft, represented Canada at the 2021 IIHF World Championship, where he earned five points in nine games.
Guhle is entering the last season of his entry-level deal. He’s the second young Canadien to pen a long-term extension this month after Juraj Slafkovsky signed an eight-year, $60.8M deal on July 1.
