Martin Necas signs two-year contract with Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have avoided arbitration with Martin Necas.

The team announced Monday that the two sides have agreed to a contract. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that it is a two-year deal worth $13 million.

Necas, who was drafted by the Hurricanes as the 12th overall pick in 2017, was coming off a two-year, $6 million deal he signed with the team in August 2022.

His name has been circling in trade rumours all summer as the Hurricanes looked for options to reshape their team. Now, Necas returns to continue his development as a top-six scorer.

In 77 games this past season, Necas recorded 24 goals and 29 assists for a total of 53 points. He had a career-high 71 points in 2022-23, with 28 goals and 43 assists over 82 games.

Across his 362 career NHL games with Carolina, the Czech has accumulated 243 points (97 goals and 146 assists. In addition, he has another 30 points (11 goals and 19 assists) over 59 career playoff games.
