TROON, Scotland — Xander Schauffele won the Open Championship on Sunday for his second major of the year, delivering a masterpiece at Royal Troon with a 6-under 65 to overcome a two-shot deficit and give the Americans a sweep of the majors for the first time since 1982.

Schauffele won the PGA Championship at Valhalla two months ago by making a six-foot birdie putt on the final hole. In a final round set up for big drama — nine players separated by three shots at the start — Schauffele made it look like a nice walk along the Irish Sea.

He played bogey-free in a strong, chilly wind and pulled away with three birdies in a four-hole stretch early on the back nine to go from two shots behind to leading by as many as three.

The 30-year-old from San Diego became the first player since Jordan Spieth in 2015 to win his first two majors in the same season. And he extended American dominance on this Scottish links as the seventh Open champion in the last eight visits to Royal Troon.

Mackenzie Hughes of Dundas, Ont., shot a 68 Sunday to finish the tournament as the top Canadian at 2-over and tied for 16th.

Xander Schauffele, the talented American golfer, recently secured his second major victory at the prestigious Open Championship. The 28-year-old rising star put on a masterful performance at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club in Sandwich, England, to claim the coveted Claret Jug.

Schauffele’s victory at the Open Championship is a testament to his skill, determination, and mental fortitude on the golf course. He displayed exceptional accuracy and precision with his shots throughout the tournament, navigating the challenging links course with ease. His ability to stay focused and composed under pressure was evident as he battled against some of the world’s best golfers in the final rounds.

This win marks Schauffele’s second major championship title, following his triumph at the 2020 Masters Tournament. It solidifies his status as one of the top players in the game and further cements his place among golf’s elite.

Schauffele’s success at the Open Championship is a result of his dedication to his craft and relentless pursuit of excellence. His work ethic, talent, and competitive spirit have propelled him to the top of the leaderboard on numerous occasions, and this latest victory is a testament to his unwavering commitment to success.

As Schauffele celebrates his second major victory at the Open Championship, golf fans around the world are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for this young phenom. With his impressive skills and winning mentality, there is no doubt that Xander Schauffele will continue to be a force to be reckoned with on the PGA Tour for years to come.
