After labouring through his first three Summer League games, Bronny James finally settled in on Wednesday, putting together a number of firsts in a Los Angeles Lakers 87-86 win.
James knocked down his first triple after beginning his Lakers tenure 0-for-16 from deep, scored in double-digits for the first time and got his first technical foul.
The 19-year-old finished the night with 12 points and two made three-pointers on 45.5 per cent shooting from the field.
“Just trying to forget about all the shots I’ve missed, forget about all the games we lost,” James said when asked about his performance after the game. “Just come out and play my game, and try to give my best every time I come out on the court, so that’s what I did tonight. And I think it ended up well.”
James, the son of Lakers star LeBron James, was drafted by L.A. with the 55th pick in last month’s NBA Draft, and had struggled with his jump shot to begin his NBA career.
On Wednesday, he got some help from undrafted big man Colin Castleton, who recorded a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double, adding six assists to lead the Lakers to their first win of the summer.
2024 first-overall pick Zaccharie Risacher did not play for the Hawks, who were unable to get a shot off on the final possession with a chance to win the game.
Rob Baker led Atlanta in scoring with 17 points.
