Ricky Tiedemann, a top Blue Jays prospect, set to return to triple-A Buffalo

Ricky Tiedemann’s rehab will continue at the top level of the minor leagues this week.

The top Toronto Blue Jays prospect is scheduled to pitch Wednesday for the triple-A Buffalo Bisons against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the MLB team confirmed on Sunday.

Tiedemann, 21, has started the first four games of his rehab assignment in Florida at lower levels. He allowed one run while striking out 15 and walking two in his past three starts for single-A Dunedin over a total of 7.2 innings.

The left-hander has been recovering from ulnar nerve inflammation that forced him onto the injured list earlier this season in mid-April after three starts with the triple-A Buffalo.

In 2023, Tiedemann threw 62 innings across three minor-league levels and the Arizona Fall League (AFL). He finished the MiLB season with a 3.68 ERA, 82 strikeouts and 23 walks.

At the AFL, he was named the Pitcher of the Year, allowing just five runs over 18 innings of work while racking up 23 strikeouts.

This season with Buffalo, Tiedemann has a 5.63 ERA with 10 strikeouts and nine walks.

Ricky Tiedemann, a highly-touted prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, is set to make his return to triple-A Buffalo after a brief stint in the major leagues. The 24-year-old right-handed pitcher has been turning heads with his impressive performances in the minor leagues, and many believe he has the potential to be a key contributor at the big league level in the near future.

Tiedemann was originally drafted by the Blue Jays in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft out of the University of Miami. Since then, he has steadily climbed through the ranks of the organization, showcasing his strong fastball, sharp breaking ball, and excellent command on the mound.

In his most recent stint with the Blue Jays, Tiedemann showed flashes of his potential, but ultimately struggled with consistency against major league hitters. Despite this, the coaching staff and front office remain high on his abilities and believe that he has what it takes to succeed at the highest level.

Returning to triple-A Buffalo will give Tiedemann the opportunity to continue developing his skills and work on refining his pitches against a high level of competition. The experience gained from facing more seasoned hitters in triple-A will only benefit him as he looks to make his mark in the majors.

Blue Jays fans are eagerly anticipating Tiedemann’s return to Buffalo and are excited to see what the future holds for this promising young pitcher. With his talent and work ethic, there is no doubt that Ricky Tiedemann has a bright future ahead of him in professional baseball.
