Blue Jays make roster move, recalling RHP Ryan Burr and optioning Jose Cuas to triple-A Buffalo

The Toronto Blue Jays are making some moves before their series in Seattle.

The team recalled right-hander Ryan Burr on Friday, optioning Jose Cuas to triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, they announced.

Burr will be active in Friday’s series-opener against the Seattle Mariners.

The 30-year-old has a 4.91 ERA in 3.2 innings pitched and has three strikeouts for the Blue Jays this season. Toronto acquired Burr at the end of May from the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cuas, who was claimed off waivers on June 23 from the Chicago Cubs, had three appearances for the Blue Jays, Cuas owns a 13.50 ERA, including an outing against the Houston Astros where he allowed three runs, one walk, two hit by pitches, one hit and no outs on just three pitches.

The Blue Jays open their series against the AL West-leading Mariners on Friday. Watch all the action on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 9:40 p.m. ET / 6:40 p.m. PT.

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a roster move, recalling right-handed pitcher Ryan Burr from the minor leagues and optioning infielder Jose Cuas to triple-A Buffalo. This move comes as the Blue Jays look to bolster their pitching staff and make adjustments to their roster.

Ryan Burr, 27, has been called up from the Buffalo Bisons, the Blue Jays’ triple-A affiliate. The right-hander has had a solid season in the minor leagues, posting a 2.45 ERA with 38 strikeouts in 25.2 innings pitched. Burr will provide depth to the Blue Jays’ bullpen and could see some action in high-leverage situations.

On the other hand, Jose Cuas, 26, has been optioned to triple-A Buffalo after struggling at the plate in limited playing time with the Blue Jays. Cuas has hit just .167 with one home run and three RBIs in 12 games this season. The move to send him down will give Cuas the opportunity to work on his swing and regain his confidence at the plate.

This roster move highlights the fluid nature of Major League Baseball rosters, as teams constantly make adjustments based on performance and need. The Blue Jays are hoping that the addition of Ryan Burr will strengthen their pitching staff, while giving Jose Cuas the chance to work on his game in the minor leagues.

It will be interesting to see how Ryan Burr performs with the Blue Jays and if Jose Cuas can make the necessary adjustments to earn his way back onto the major league roster. As the season progresses, more roster moves are likely to occur as teams juggle their lineups and pitching staffs in pursuit of success.
