Yegor Sharangovich signs five-year extension with Flames

The Calgary Flames have locked up one of their core for the foreseeable future.

The Flames signed Yegor Sharangovich to a five-year, $28.75 million deal on Monday, the forward’s agent Dan Milstein announced.

After being traded to Calgary ahead of the 2023-24 season, the 26-year-old enjoyed a breakout season with the Flames.

He recorded 31 goals and 28 assists for 59 points in 82 games last season — all career highs.

The Calgary Flames have locked in one of their key young players for the long term, as forward Yegor Sharangovich has signed a five-year contract extension with the team. The deal is reportedly worth $25 million, averaging out to $5 million per season.

Sharangovich, who was originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Draft, was acquired by the Flames in a trade last season. Since joining Calgary, the 23-year-old has quickly become a fan favorite with his dynamic playmaking ability and strong two-way game.

In his first full season with the Flames, Sharangovich has put up impressive numbers, tallying 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in 58 games. He has also been a key contributor on the power play, with 10 of his goals coming with the man advantage.

Flames general manager Brad Treliving expressed his excitement about locking up Sharangovich long term, stating, “Yegor has been a great addition to our team and has quickly become an important part of our core group of players. We believe he has a bright future ahead of him and we are thrilled to have him signed for the next five years.”

Sharangovich himself is also thrilled to be staying in Calgary, saying, “I love playing for this team and this city. The Flames organization has been great to me since day one and I am excited to continue my career here for the next five years.”

With Sharangovich now locked in for the foreseeable future, the Flames can focus on building a competitive team around him and their other young stars. Fans can look forward to seeing more exciting plays and big goals from Sharangovich in the years to come as he continues to develop and grow as a player in the NHL.
