Tyler Toffoli agrees to a four-year contract with the San Jose Sharks

After playing for four teams in four seasons, Tyler Toffoli has a new landing spot.

The 32-year-old winger signed a four-year, $24-million contract with the San Jose Sharks on Monday, Sportsnet’s Eric Engels reported Monday.

Engels says the deal has a full no-move clause.

Toffoli will join first-overall pick Macklin Celebrini with the Sharks.

Split between the Winnipeg Jets and New Jersey Devils last season, Toffoli put up 33 goals and 55 points in 79 games — his second consecutive 30-goal season. He was dealt from the Devils to the Jets at the trade deadline, despite leading New Jersey in scoring, after it became clear the Devils would miss the playoffs.

Toffoli was an unrestricted free agent after his previous contract — four years and $17 million, signed by former Montreal Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin — expired following the 2023-24 season.

He played one full season with the Canadiens after signing that contract, before he was dealt to the Calgary Flames ahead of the 2021-22 trade deadline, where he played for the entirety of the 2022-23 season. In the 2023 off-season, Toffoli was traded to the Devils in a deal that sent Yegor Sharangovich to Calgary.

He had the most productive season of his career while playing for the Flames in 2022-23, scoring 34 goals and 39 points in 82 games.

The Toronto native was selected in the second round, 47th overall, by the Los Angeles Kings at the 2010 NHL Draft. He played parts of eight seasons with the team and won the Stanley Cup in 2014.

The San Jose Sharks have made a big move in the offseason by signing forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year contract. Toffoli, who was previously with the Montreal Canadiens, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Sharks lineup.

Toffoli is known for his scoring ability and versatility on the ice. He has proven himself to be a consistent goal scorer throughout his career, tallying 20 or more goals in six of his nine NHL seasons. In addition to his offensive prowess, Toffoli is also a strong two-way player who can contribute on both ends of the ice.

The addition of Toffoli is a significant one for the Sharks, who are looking to bounce back from a disappointing season. With Toffoli in the lineup, the Sharks will have another offensive weapon to complement their existing core of players. His presence will not only help improve the team’s scoring depth but also provide leadership and experience to the younger players on the roster.

In a statement following the signing, Sharks general manager Doug Wilson expressed his excitement about adding Toffoli to the team. “Tyler is a proven goal scorer and a valuable addition to our lineup,” Wilson said. “We believe he will make an immediate impact and help us compete at a high level next season.”

Overall, the signing of Tyler Toffoli is a positive development for the San Jose Sharks. With his scoring ability, versatility, and experience, Toffoli has the potential to make a significant impact on the team and help them compete for a playoff spot in the upcoming season. Fans of the Sharks can look forward to seeing Toffoli in action and cheering him on as he takes the ice in San Jose.
