Lance Stroll to race for Aston Martin through 2026 season in Canada

SILVERSTONE, England — Canadian driver Lance Stroll will continue racing for Aston Martin into the 2026 season, the Formula 1 team said Thursday.

No details were given about the length of Stroll’s contract, but the team said the contract “will see Lance race into the new era of F1 regulations” — which start in 2026.

“I’m super happy to have committed to staying with the team for 2025 and beyond,” Stroll said. “There’s still so much more to look forward to.”

Stroll finished 10th in the drivers’ standings last season with a best finish of fourth at the Australian GP. This season he is in 11th place heading into this weekend’s Austrian GP, with a best result of sixth, again secured in Australia.

The extension also means Stroll and the 42-year-old Fernando Alonso will continue together for a third and fourth season. In April, the two-time F1 champion Alonso signed a contract extension with Aston Martin for at least two more seasons.

“The consistency and stability of both Lance and Fernando remaining with our team is a great platform to continue to realise our ambitions,” team principal Mike Krack said. “We look forward to creating some incredible memories and achieving further success together.”

The team is owned by the 25-year-old Stroll’s father, Lawrence Stroll.

Canadian Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll has signed a contract extension with Aston Martin, ensuring he will race for the team through the 2026 season. The announcement was made by team principal Otmar Szafnauer, who expressed his excitement about continuing to work with Stroll.

Stroll, who hails from Montreal, Canada, joined Aston Martin in 2020 after previously racing for Racing Point. The 23-year-old driver has shown promise on the track, with a podium finish at the Italian Grand Prix in 2020 and consistent performances throughout his career.

Stroll’s father, Lawrence Stroll, is the owner of the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, leading to some criticism of Lance’s position within the team. However, Lance has proven himself to be a talented driver in his own right, with a strong work ethic and dedication to improving his skills.

With the stability of a long-term contract, Stroll can focus on continuing to develop as a driver and helping Aston Martin achieve success on the track. The team has been steadily improving since its rebranding from Racing Point, and Stroll’s presence will be key to their future success.

Stroll’s extension with Aston Martin is also significant for Canadian motorsport fans, as he is one of the few Canadian drivers currently competing in Formula 1. His success on the international stage has helped raise the profile of Canadian racing and inspire a new generation of young drivers.

Overall, Lance Stroll’s contract extension with Aston Martin is a positive development for both the team and Canadian motorsport. With his talent and determination, Stroll is sure to continue making waves in Formula 1 for years to come.
